Mono Proof of Life + Updates

    Hi everyone!

Got a comment (affectionately) asking if I was still alive, and I thought I ought to make a little post updating everyone on what’s going onnnnnnn

And what is going on is mostly that grad school had completely overtaken my life. I decided to take an extra class this semester–a poetry one, specifically–and though it’s been great for my writing, I am also so busy all the time there is so much to do all the time i am

    very tired

Here are some of the things I’ve been up to!!

    • Started working on the non-horsie version of Crimson Lips a.k.a. my thesis
      • Wrote a prologue and chapter 1, took forever
        • Realized they SUCKED
      • Rewrote chapter 1 completely, 20 pages or so
        • IT’S SOOOOO GOOOOD, YOU GUIIISEEEE
      • But now I need to write [checks notebook] 40 pages by the end of November
    • Wrote a non-horsie version of The Creature and presented it in workshop just to see what happened
      • Got asked several times if there was more, and that this could be a series, and have I considered expanding?
        • I nodded a lot, sitting on my pile of 60k words of AU lmao
    • Written FOUR poems
    • Am in a weekly writing group
    • Am in a weekly writing call
    • Reading so much all the time there is so much homework neverending forever
    • got official art of Sophie Clarke, the love interest and deuteragonist of new Crimson
      • here she is
    • i loooooveee herrrrr
      • so muchhhhhhhhhhh
        • three guesses who she used to be lol
          • actually, I talked about it in my tumblr, lol, but crazy how different she is from crimson!Twilight in a very unique way? She feels like the culmination of my vision of Twilight’s archetype, i love herrrrr
            • Lenore is, however, not very Rarity but very, very, very my Rarity. Does that make sense? Actually she’s pretty much very similar to Crimson!Rarity who was already very my version of Rarity.
              • I love her toooooo

    Among other things!

“But Mono,” you’re saying, “this is all great and all, clearly doing a lot in grad school, but… what does this mean for fics? Is it over? Are you done? Is this the slow death, the last flicker, before you leave us forever?”

    The answer is:

No. You cannot get rid of me. Every day I am haunted by the girlies. I am desperate to have time to work on Colors, and College, and TEra, and something that isn’t going to be graded. I even managed to write some college!au this week.

I am just very busy. But in a good way. But I am so busy. All the time. I am so exhausted. But working hard. My writing is improving, and I’m growing a lot as a writer, so I must again ask you all continue to trust the process and wait patiently with the knowledge that this will result in fics of better quality as well as hopefully original content [manifesting Crimson movie deal, manifesting manifesting manifest–].

But yes. I’m hoping winter break will give me the time to actually just work on fics for a bit. Or I’ll try and squeeze some time before. Just know that I finally feel like my writing is improving in a way I can see, which is very important for me.

    and that’s it!

    mwaaaaaaaa

Hooray for improvement! I can’t wait to get a limited edition hardcover of new Crimson and have it signed by its wonderful author.

      non-horsie version of Crimson Lips

As far as I remember there wasn’t much horsieness in original Crimson Lips. What do you mean? Is that the version freed of copyright issues that can be published as original book?

Yes superficially, but more than anything it’s basically an almost complete overhaul/rewrite, to the point that horse crimson doesn’t even work as a first draft, really, but much more as a vibe guide. I’ve completely changed some characters, swapped ages, constructed a whole magic system, deeper lore for the characters, and more than anything, I combined the plots of Crimson and what I had planned for its sequel, Sapphire Eyes. I’ve grown a lot as a writer, and rather than just do a superficial pass, I wanted to write the story I wish I could have written years ago if I had my current skill level.

So that’s where I put the girlies, I’ve been looking all over.
